LITERACY TOOLKIT GALLERY
The pages shown below are from my own personal literacy toolkit.
Many of these pages have been inspired by the work of Jennifer Serravallo (Reading & Writing Strategy Books), Kate Roberts & Maggie Beattie Roberts (DIY Literacy), Marjorie Martinelli & Kristine Mraz (Smarter Charts) and elements of the TCRWP. Some pages I created using parts of anchor charts I found online, and others are my own creations. In most cases, I have adapted the content from other authors in some way to suit the specific needs of my students.
These examples aren’t perfect, they’ve been well-loved and used often, and they show just one way a teaching tool related to a specific skill or strategy could look.
My purpose in sharing these is to hopefully help you get started and possibly inspire your own creations!
In this example, the mind map followed on from the initial anchor chart and was created with students. Using sticky notes here allows me to recreate the mind map for another character/text.
This example also shows an anchor chart followed by a page to interactively record student responses.
It can be helpful to use a mentor text to demonstrate specific strategies. Here, I’ve created a simple pocket on the back of the page to store a mentor text that the students were already familiar with.
Although these examples aren’t interactive, I have found it helpful to keep mini copies of important charts to refer to when working with students. They’re an excellent tool to help focus my instruction and feedback!
