Hi! My name is Katie Walker. I am passionate about teaching, learning and creating classroom environments where all students are engaged and teachers feel inspired!
My experience includes upper elementary classroom teacher, gifted and talented teacher, learning support specialist, reading interventionist, upper elementary literacy coach and student support team leader. Within each of these roles I have had the wonderful opportunity to gain unique insight and perspective into the needs of students and how we, as teachers, can design curriculum that is engaging, inspiring and scaffolded thoughtfully to support the needs of our diverse learners.
In 2013 my husband and I decided to say goodbye to Australia and move to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Here’s a photo of my husband, Josh, and our 3 year old daughter, Sophie. What was only supposed to be a 2 year adventure turned into a decade of living abroad and having the amazing opportunity to teach internationally within an IB PYP school. The experience I have gained living and working overseas has been nothing short of amazing! I have met lifelong friends, worked with fantastic colleagues, participated in world-class, inspiring professional development and realized my deep love for all things literacy!
